About the Store
Back in the 1980's, Costume Gallery was started by Costume
Claire, in her home. She moved the store to our current
location in 1995. In 1999, we acquired the inventory of
Hooker and Howe, from Haverhill, Massachusetts. Costume
aficionados will recognize Hooker-Howe as THE place for
theatrical costuming. What it means to Costume Gallery
customers is that we are now the areas leader foe everything
costume, whether for theatre, film, seasonal characters
or themed parties.
Our costume rental inventory is extensive. If you can
imagine it, we either have it or we can get it. Our stock
comes from the top suppliers in the country and what we
don't buy, we build. Costume care is a top priority. We
clean our costumes after every use and make alterations
and repairs as necessary.
We strive to pay as much attention to our customers as we do our costumes, because we realize that no matter how good our products, what keeps people coming back is the way they're treated. We're fair, we're honest and yes, we're fun. |

Costume Claire (Owner)
Claire is fifteenth out of sixteen children. Most of her eleven sisters sewed while her four brothers built things. Claire felt pretty strongly about keeping up with them all. In high school, she began making costumes at home and soon she and several sisters decided to turn their passion into profession.
Claire made many of the costumes in the shop, as well as many custom pieces you may have been lucky enough to see at special events like the 250th Anniversary Celebration for the town of Salem. Her creations have been worn by well known TV and film personalities as well as political candidates including presidential candidates. Claire recently served as costume director for the movies "Developing Sheldon" and “Marvin’s Room”, filmed locally. Claire has outfitted everyone from birthday party clowns to characters for major hotel and retail chains.
